The New Volkswagen Passat CC Celebrates Its World Premiere in Detroit at 2008 NAIAS

Sportiness meets elegance

Wolfsburg/Detroit, 13 January 2008 - Just a few days into the New Year Volkswagen is setting off its latest firework with today’s world-exclusive launch of the new four-door Passat CC at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS). A car that is anything but mainstream.

2008 Volkswagen Passat CC

2008 Volkswagen Passat CC

The new Volkswagen embraces differences. It is a coupé, yet has four doors; it offers supreme comfort whilst at the same time oozing pure dynamism. Its sporty interior is uncompromising yet spacious.

The completely redesigned bodywork captivates with its silhouette of fluid lines. The roof stretches powerfully in a flat radius from the windscreen to the rear. A characteristic element of the design is the sharp tornado line drawn below the lower edge of the windows. Another new development is the panoramic glass roof which offers an overhead view.

The VW Passat, a proven success for more than three decades, forms the technical basis for the first four-door coupé by Volkswagen. The Volkswagen Passat CC comes exclusively with state-of-the-art direct injection engines (118 kW / 160 PS to 220 kW / 300 PS). A globally unique feature is the new lane hold assist system. If the vehicle appears to be inadvertently leaving the lane, the assistance system provides corrective steer control. The sportiness of a coupé is married to the comfort of a top-of-the-range saloon through the common denominator of automatic running gear adjustment, Dynamic Drive Control (DDC).

The core markets are North America, Western Europe and Japan. The Volkswagen Passat CC, built in the German Volkswagen plant in Emden, will initially be launched in the second quarter of the year in Europe and then from the fourth quarter in the USA and Canada and later Japan.

2008 Volkswagen R32 - Short Take Road Tests

VEHICLE TYPE: front-engine, 4-wheel-drive, 5-passenger, 3-door hatchback
PRICE AS TESTED: $35,430 (base price: $33,630)
ENGINE TYPE: DOHC 24-valve V-6, iron block and aluminum head, port fuel injection
Displacement: 195 cu in, 3189cc
Power (SAE net): 250 bhp @ 6300 rpm
Torque (SAE net): 236 lb-ft @ 2500 rpm
TRANSMISSION: 6-speed manual with automated shifting and clutch
DIMENSIONS: Wheelbase: 101.5 in Length: 167.2 in Width: 69.2 in Height: 57.7 in
Curb weight: 3521 lb
FUEL ECONOMY : EPA city/highway driving: 18/23 mpg

2008 Volkswagen R32 2008 Volkswagen R32 -2Basically, the Volkswagen R32 is a three-door GTI—already one of our favorite small cars, with a comparison-test crown and a 10Best trophy to its name—with more: a 250-hp narrow-angle V-6, all-wheel drive, a full complement of luxury features, and weight. VW manages the R32’s weight gain without losing the GTI’s playful tossability by cinching the car’s suspenders a bit tighter. Spring rates, increased just so all around, mask the additional 332 pounds quite well, leaving the GTI and the R32 nearly indistinguishable in tight Alpine switchbacks. With our test gear riding shotgun, the R32, even fitted with the no-cost-option all-season tires, managed 0.87 g on the skidpad, matching the best number posted by a production GTI in our hands (the early Euro-spec car we tested pulled 0.90 g on summer tires).

Unfortunately, the R32 manages its increase in power without a huge gain in speed over the lighter front-wheel-drive GTI. All R32s come with Volkswagen’s DSG dual-clutch sequential transmission—with launch control—so mashing the throttle yields easy, consistent hole-shots. Compared with a DSG-equipped GTI, we saw a half-second improvement in the 0-to-60-mph blast but just a 0.2-second and 2-mph lead through the quarter, with those benchmarks falling in 5.5 and 14.4 seconds at 97 mph, compared with 6.0 and 14.6 at 95.

No doubt the R32 is a special package, a rare blend of performance and comfort, and a bargain compared with other cars offering the same balance of attributes. But for $33,630, or about $6000 more than a similarly equipped GTI, some might want more than just two more driven wheels, a center-exit exhaust that emits a sexier note, and a slight calming of high-speed ride. How much is a small step toward perfection worth to you?

Volkswagen Polo Match

Volkswagen Golf Variant RaVe 270

Volkswagen Golf Variant RaVe 270

This year the Essen Motor Show is experiencing a very special premiere: the debut of the Volkswagen Golf Variant RaVe 270. It is still a concept car. And yet, it becomes impressively clear just how much potential this car holds. RaVe 270 – it stands for the 270 PS developed by a four-cylinder TSI with direct gasoline injection and turbocharging.

RaVe 270 – it stands for a customized interior with exclusive leather bucket seats. RaVe 270 – it also stands for techno music from a powerful 1,400 Watt sound system of the prestige class. This system really hammers.

It is based on the brand-new RNS 510 radio-navigation system. System controls include a user-friendly touchscreen and multifunction keys. Hardware of the RNS 510 includes a 400 MHz Power-PC processor and a dedicated graphic processor. The navigation and entertainment data are stored on a 30-Gigabyte hard disk drive.

A SD card slot (including for MP3 files) is located beneath the touchscreen. But the real highlight is the fact that the RNS 510 interfaces with a powerful 1,400 Watt sound system. A total of 13 loudspeakers are supplied via powerful output amplifiers. A strong 880 Watt subwoofer and two other 250 Watt subwoofers in chrome are responsible for the distinctly "palpable" sound. Like the output amplifiers, the 880 Watt subwoofer is located so that it is visible on the cargo floor. Also integrated in the rear were two 12-inch monitors, so that the music of the best bands could not only be heard but seen too. The driver and front passenger can enjoy the sound from ergonomically exclusive sport bucket seats.

The Volkswagen Golf Variant RaVe 270 was developed and built in "Biscay Blue" color by Volkswagen Individual. The underlying idea: to transfer GTI and R32 feeling to a station wagon for the first time. And indeed to the most powerful Golf Variant of all times. With a further power-enhanced Golf GTI engine and the 4Motion all-wheel drive of the Golf R32.

The engine of the RaVe 270

At 198 kW / 270 PS this engine sets a new record at Volkswagen for four cylinder engines. The high-tech TSI is based on the engine of the Golf GTI Edition 30 whose power was already boosted from 147 kW / 200 PS to 169 kW / 230 PS. Modifications to the turbocharger, intercooling and engine electronics allowed engineers to boost power by another 40 PS. The 270 PS are available at 6,000 rpm. No less fascinating is its torque development: the maximum of 350 Newton-meter is available at a low 3,000 rpm. This peak value remains constant up to 5,000 rpm. In practice this translates into fun.

The Volkswagen RaVe 270 concept car is the first new generation Golf Variant to have 4Motion all-wheel drive. Power is transmitted to the front and rear axles by DSG dual clutch transmission. This transmission shifts gears in fractions of a second, faster than any race car driver can. Of course, any drivers who want to can also shift the DSG manually. The sport car producers of this world can only dream of this transmission. Not only is it damned fast, but it is economical without equal among the competition. The reason: while it is extremely difficult for any other automatic to avoid added fuel consumption based on their technology, the DSG helps to save on fuel. The DSG teams up with the charged TSI to form a particularly efficient alliance: despite its incredible performance values, the average fuel consumption of the Golf Variant RaVe 270 is just 9.1 liters of Super gasoline (95 ROZ) per 100 kilometers.

Even more impressive is the way in which the engine and transmission distribute engine speeds and convert them into forward propulsion via the 4Motion all-wheel drive. After just 5.8 seconds the Golf Variant RaVe 270 is already moving at 100 km/h. It races to the 200 km/h mark in just 20.8 seconds. Not until 250 km/h is reached do the electronics stop further acceleration.

Volkswagen Golf Variant RaVe 270: The Body

Volkswagen has developed a new design line for all add-on body components. This means: bumpers, radiator grille, side skirts, taillights, headlamps, even the mirrors – everything modified. The front bumper is its most distinctive feature. It was redesigned together with the radiator grille for a powerful look.

Significant: The xenon headlamps got a new look by extending the engine hood and fenders and adding new special caps. Also integrated here: daylight running lamps in LED technology.

Visually striking at the rear end are two twin-fluted tailpipes on the left and right. The upper profiles of the pipes extend into the bumper painted in car color. Between them is a diffuser that provides for additional traction at the rear axle. Its effect supplements that of the roof edge spoiler. Also modified were the taillights.

In its side profile, it is details such as the chrome roof rail, mirror caps and window trim also in chrome, and the large 19 inch "Zaragoza" type alloy wheels which – in combination with a 20 millimeter lower stance – lend the concept car a very independent character. Meanwhile, an 18 inch Brembo braking system delivers impressive braking performance; the brake calipers painted in Anthracite gleam through the wheels.

Premiere in Bologna: Family Portrait of Volkswagen's New Small Family

Round the world in 14 weeks: before their group appearance at the 2007 Bologna Motor Show, Volkswagen sent the New Small Family on a whistle-stop tour around the world. Today it’s showdown in Italy as the three Up! concept vehicles are revealed side by side for the first time as ambassadors of a new range and as a family.

Volkswagen concept cars: New Small Family

“For both my team and for me, it was a dream to design these concept vehicles" confirmed Walter de Silva, Chief Designer of Volkswagen Group, at the start of the press conference, “because these cars embody the emergence of a new era. Anyone looking at the New Small Family will immediately see how friendly and neat these Volkswagens are. Cars of this sort are fun. No explanation is needed - they speak for themselves.”

Volkswagen concept cars: New Small FamilyVolkswagen concept cars: New Small Family

Before their joint debut in Bologna, Volkswagen sent the New Small Family on a whistle-stop tour around the world, starting at the IAA International Motor Show in Frankfurt on 10 September with the two-door Up!. Just six weeks later, the larger Space Up! microvan made its debut in Tokyo – they impressively demonstrate how every millimetre of space can be exploited using intelligent packaging while at the same time creating an emotional design. Twenty days later and 9,000 air kilometres further eastwards, Los Angeles was presented with the third variant of the New Small Family – the zero-emission Space Up! Blue van. The response was extremely positive all around the globe. That was perhaps also “because every Up! also demonstrates commitment to protecting our environment” according to Dr. Ulrich Hackenberg, Board Member with responsibility for Technical Development at Volkswagen. “After all, extremely clean petrol and diesel engines and electric motors will be working in the backs of these cars.”

2008 Volkswagen New Beetle

Driving off in iconic, head-turning vehicles like the 2008 New Beetle and New Beetle convertible just got easier with new option packages from Volkswagen.
The New Beetle sedan now is available in a well-equipped base model “S” as well as the “SE” model with premium sound, heated front seats and heated windshield washer nozzles.

2008 Volkswagen New Beetle2008 Volkswagen New Beetle-22008 Volkswagen New Beetle-32008 Volkswagen New Beetle-4The sedan also is available in Platinum Gray and Reflex Silver. New 16-inch alloy wheels are available on the “S,” and 17-inch alloy wheels are available on the “SE.” The 2008 New Beetle and New Beetle convertible are available at Volkswagen dealers now, with a starting price of $17,365 for the hard-top and $23,125 for the soft-top.

As you would expect from Volkswagen, the interior of the car has been given thorough attention. The newest interpretation of the iconic interior includes a single-bezel instrument cluster housing a large, easy-to-read, 140 mile-per-hour speedometer and a smaller tachometer and fuel gauge. Chrome accents enhance the instrument cluster and the dashboard air vents.

A two-speed windshield wiper system features a four-speed intermittent wipe feature. A large assist handle across the instrument panel above the glove box and two rear-passenger assist straps located on the B-pillar on hardtop models ensure interior comfort.

The 2008 New Beetle and New Beetle convertible are offered with the advanced Volkswagen 2.5-liter, in-line, five-cylinder gasoline engine. The 2.5 L engine delivers 150 horsepower at 5,000 rpm and 170 lbs.-ft. of torque at 3,750 rpm.

Power is delivered to the front wheels with two types of transmissions. A five-speed manual transmission operates smoothly with a hydraulic clutch. An available six-speed transmission with Tiptronic® allows for both automatic and driver-selected gear changes using the gear selector. The 2008 New Beetle and New Beetle convertible with automatic transmission achieve an EPA-estimated fuel efficiency of up to 29 miles per gallon in highway driving and 20 mpg in city driving. With a manual transmission, the EPA estimates are 28 mpg highway and 20 on the city cycle.

2009 Volkswagen Jetta TDi Test Drive Clean Diesel’s 50 MPG Meets Prius-Humbling Thrust

The new era of clean diesel in America will officially be ushered in by the new VW Jetta TDi when it goes on sale in a few months. Powered by a 2.0-liter four-banger that produces 140 hp and 236 lb.-ft. of torque, it will be the first automobile to meet the world’s most stringent emission control standards, California’s Tier II, Bin 5.

2009 Volkswagen Jetta TDiAlthough it won’t be wearing the “BlueTec” badge, the Jetta will be using emission-cleansing technologies developed under the cooperative formed by Audi, Mercedes-Benz and Volkswagen to make it 50-state legal. Most BlueTec vehicles control NOx emissions—one of the biggest environmental hurdles facing diesels, along with particulate matter—by injecting a urea-based solution into the exhaust system upstream from the catalytic converter, where NOx is then converted into nitrogen and water. The Jetta will instead use a NOx-storage catalyst, which is basically a reservoir that temporarily holds the noxious emissions, like a particulate filter, until they can be burned off during one of the engine cycles.

In addition, the new engine will feature a common-rail fuel injection system, instead of VW’s traditional mechanical system, that uses piezoelectric fuel injectors. This technology permits higher injection pressures, which better atomize the fuel and make it easier to control pollution.

We recently test drove the Jetta through the streets of San Francisco and were pleasantly surprised. The Jetta has always been agile and zippy, but the new, more powerful TDi gives it more oomph, allowing us to power through traffic and accelerate from stoplights with authority and a little bravado—we totally tooled on a Toyota Prius. We were also shocked as to how quiet the engine operates: You have to consciously listen for the knocking, or you wouldn’t even notice it.

If reports are correct, the Jetta should get upwards of 50 mpg, combined highway and city. Although pricing hasn’t been announced, expect it to be within a few thousand of the current models (an estimated $18,000 to $23,000). We can’t wait for chance to spend some more time with the new TDi Jetta—and test its real-world feul economy. —Chuck Tannert.

Tokyo show: VW grows up

Japan may be the land of the miniature solution, but VW's up! Concept has grown for its visit to Tokyo.

VolkswagenVolkswagen-2Volkswagen-3This is the space up, minivan version of Volkswagen's baby city car we saw back in Frankfurt. Unveiled at the Tokyo show, it sits on a longer wheelbase than its three-door sister, and has grown in length by 23cm and height by 40cm.

However, the space up! (anyone else hating that name already?) is still 15cm shorter than the VW Fox - seriously dinky for a four-seater.

The clean lines (or contrived retroism, depending on your point of view) of the styling remain similar to the original up!, and the engine is still strung out at the rear. VW is still touting the flexibility of the concept, and reckons it could be powered by a petrol, diesel or electric motor.

Insiders reckon we could see two- and three-cylinder engines powering the production up!, depending on the market: expect China and India to get the most frugal, low-cost versions, while Europe could see higher-powered variants.

VW has promised yet another up! concept at the Detroit show early next year. We're not expecting a coupe-convertible, but in this crazy world of lower-case proper nouns and unexpected exclamation marks, anything could happen.

Porsche cleared for Volkswagen takeover

Will Porsche buy out Volkswagen? A Teutonic takeover looks on the cards after Europe's highest court (most powerful, that is, not one at especially lofty altitude) ruled a law protecting VW from foreign takeovers is illegal.

PorscheThe so-called 'VW Law' had prevented Porsche from exercising more than 20 per cent of its voting rights over Volkswagen, despite owning a 31 per cent stake.

But the European Court of Justice ruled that the law - which was originally drawn up back in 1960 to prevent VW being taken over by hostile foreign investors - contravened the principles of the European Single Market.

That means that Porsche will soon be free to take its stake in VW to 50 per cent, giving it overall control. Porsche CEO Wendelin Wiedeking said today, "We obviously have a high interest in exercising our voting rights in full." Watch out, VW.

So does this mean we'll see a VW 911 Turbo or, worse, a Porsche Polo? Unlikely, but the two companies have already collaborated on the Touareg/Cayenne project, so don't rule out the possibility of more production crossover.

In any case, insiders say that Porsche is unlikely to raise its stake in VW until next year? Пiving all you Mk II Golf owners time to remove that 'My Other Car's A Porsche' sticker from the rear window.

Volkswagen unveils new Tiguan Compact 4x4

Volkswagen has taken the wraps off its new Tiguan compact 4x4 which will go on sale in February 2008, following its world public debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September. Based on the Concept Tiguan that made its debut at the Los Angeles Motor Show last year, the Tiguan is slightly larger than the Volkswagen Touran compact MPV and an appearance which reinforces its strong links to its ‘big brother’, the Touareg. In the UK, the Tiguan will initially be available with two engines – a 2.0-litre 140 PS TDI diesel which is likely to be the most popular model, and a 1.4-litre 150 PS TSI petrol unit. Later in 2008 a 170 PS TDI and two further petrol engines will become available to order.

The Tiguan is slightly larger than the Volkswagen Touran compact MPV at 4.4 metres long, 1.8 metres wide and 1.6 metres in height. It has a purposeful appearance which reinforces its strong links to its ‘big brother’, the Touareg, with raised suspension, large tyres and true 4x4 styling cues.

Both diesel engines meet the stringent Euro 5 emissions standard that comes into effect in 2009.

S, SE and Sport models will be offered at launch, all with 4MOTION four-wheel drive and an 18 degree angle of approach, a figure that defines the size of obstruction the vehicle can drive over. Customers requiring additional off-road capability can choose a 28 degree angle of approach front end. This model comes with a radiator protection grille, underbody protection, hill descent control and a compass.

UK pricing is expected to start at around UKP 19,000 (US$38,000), with Volkswagen Retailers due to start taking orders for the new car in November.

Volkswagen Crafter Race Home

Now there's a double entendre that should stir the hearts of enthusiasts.

Volkswagen Crafter Race HomeVolkswagen Crafter Race Home 2Volkswagen Crafter Race Home 3Unfortunately, we're speaking only of British enthusiasts, who now are able to buy an exclusive edition of the Volkswagen Crafter van called the Race Home. Developed at the company's Van Centre here, the Race Home — based on the long-wheelbase, high-roof Crafter panel van — is aimed primarily at motorcycle racers, but should have even broader appeal to cyclists and motorsports enthusiasts of all stripes.

The Crafter Race Home can transport two motorcycles or a quad bike, and can serve as a base for race weekends. It's outfitted with hand-built furniture, leather upholstery, two pull-out double beds, double-glazed windows with blinds and a heating system. A full kitchen is equipped with a refrigerator, microwave and three-burner gas grill, and the bathroom has a toilet and shower.

When the Race Home is set up, it includes a garage area with walls, ceiling and heavy-duty checker-plate flooring, plus storage space for tools and equipment.

Fitted with a 136-horsepower 2.5-liter turbodiesel, the Crafter Race Home is priced in England at $93,918 including VAT.

Volkswagen Passat

Even with that chrome grill and incongruous V6 in the model line-up, we always knew that the Volkswagen Passat was a bit boring at heart.

And now the big VW has proved its true colours. It's not just boring, it's a caravanner.

The Passat Estate has beaten off stiff competition to be voted Towcar of the Year 2007.

VW PassatApparently the Passat was subjected to a rigorous testing programme before being awarded the title.

Although the details of this test are unclear, we must assume that the 'idling down the outside lane of the A30 at 30mph with a two-mile queue of traffic behind' challenge, the 'how many miles can you cover before realising that you forgot to hitch your caravan onto the towbar back at the trailer park' exam and, of course, the 'most ridiculous wing mirror extensions' shootout all formed part of the curriculum.

On a serious note, we hope - as will anyone who saw the 'Top Gear Goes Camping' episode a couple of series back - that the examiners saw fit to test the fireproof qualities of the Passat. It's a dangerous business, this camping lark.

New York Auto Show: VW Touareg 2 Debuts

PRESS RELEASE:
TOUAREG 2 MAKES U.S. DEBUT AT NEW YORK INTERNATIONAL AUTO SHOW

Features a fresh exterior and two recently updated engines

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. – Volkswagen's first-ever SUV has been restyled for the 2008 model year, returning as the Touareg 2. The updated version will enter showrooms with refreshed exterior styling, an impressive list of safety features and vehicle capabilities, and three powerful engine options. After its U.S. debut at the New York International Auto Show, the Touareg 2 arrives at dealerships later this spring, with pricing starting at $39,320.

Taking design cues from others in the Volkswagen model lineup, the Touareg 2's updated exterior styling now echoes the brand's signature design with its new Volkswagen "face"- specifically its chrome front grille. The Touareg 2 also has a redesigned aerodynamic and sporty rear spoiler with integrated third brake light. Other distinctive exterior features include 17-inch alloy wheels, standard on the VR6 FSI, and 19-inch alloy wheels, standard on the V8 FSI and V10 TDI Twin Turbo models; redesigned headlamps and darkened taillights; redesigned luxury seating system, with standard 12-way power driver's seat; and four all-new exterior color options – Alaska Gray, Cranberry, Galapagos and White Gold.

The Touareg 2 boasts three engine variations- with both the VR6 FSI and V8 FSI recently upgraded. The Touareg's 3.2-liter VR6 has been replaced with a more powerful 3.6-liter VR6 FSI, which has an additional 40 horsepower, now at 280 hp. The FSI technology has considerably improved the driving performance of the Touareg 2. This significant performance upgrade is accompanied by increased torque with an optimized torque curve. The recently upgraded 4.2-liter

V8 FSI is the first eight-cylinder Volkswagen engine with unleaded fuel direct injection, generating an impressive 350 horsepower, 40 more than the previous V8, and 325 lbs. ft. of torque. The Touareg 2's 5.0-liter V10 TDI Twin Turbo offering delivers 310 horsepower and a staggering 553 lbs. ft. of torque. All three Touareg 2's offer an incredible 7,716 pounds of towing capacity.

The Touareg 2 also features a variety of driving systems designed to ensure safety and enhance the vehicle's handling. These features include a new rollover sensor system, which records both turning angle and turning speed to determine whether the vehicle will encounter a possible rollover situation. The rollover sensor system merges with the airbag control device to activate side and side head curtain airbags if a rollover hazard is present. An enhanced tire pressure monitoring system that informs the driver of any tire pressure loss is now standard. The Touareg 2 features various Electronic Stabilization Program innovations, including hydraulic braking assist, a preventative braking pressure build-up system for sudden lifts off of the gas pedal which prepares the vehicle for a sudden stop. Other ESP innovations include rain brake support, which intermittently wipes the rotors dry when windshield wipers are activated; and an understeering control logic system which improves turning behavior during understeering.

In addition to these features, the Touareg 2 boasts a world-first "ABSplus" braking system. This Volkswagen-developed and patented system shortens braking distance for the Touareg 2 by up to 20 percent on loose roadbeds by pushing a portion of the road material under temporarily locked wheels to form a chock. This innovation is the first of its kind in the world and is a Touareg 2 exclusive feature.

The Touareg 2 includes a noteworthy array of vehicle capabilities. A permanent four-wheel drive system, 4XMOTION™, provides improved traction on virtually any surface. Hill Roll Back Assist and Hill Descent Assist features stabilize the Touareg 2 during off-road ventures. Standard independent suspension and improved axle pitching further allow this powerful vehicle the capability to navigate uneven terrain with confidence. The Touareg 2 also boasts 33-degree approach and departure angles, 45-degree climbing capability, 35-degree lateral inclination, adjustable air suspension and up to 23-inch fording depth with the optional air suspension.

Additional standard features include Sirius™ Satellite Radio, park distance control, power liftgate, new instrument cluster with larger display, and a new silver metallic trim standard on the VR6 FSI.

Touareg 2 is available with all-new Lux, Lux Plus and Technologie option packages. These packages further enhance the Touareg 2 with additional upgrades including a ten speaker Dynaudio premium sound system, keyless access with a start/stop button, and Bi-Xenon headlights with AFS II, which help improve night time visibility and enhances the driver's ability to negotiate turns by allowing them to 'see' into the curve.

ScentAir Takes Your Nose for a Ride in VW Microbus

Scent marketing leader introduces world's first interactive scent-sampling VW Microbus

ScentAir, the world's leading provider of scent marketing solutions for the retail and hospitality industries, has taken the car air freshener to another level, recently unveiling an innovative scent-sampling vehicle dubbed the "VbubbleU."

Utilizing scent delivery techniques originally designed for military simulators, ScentAir created a one-of-a-kind interactive scent-sampling kiosk from a 1967 Volkswagen Microbus. Touch screen monitors replaced the windows and provided the interface for customers to sample scents that instantly emanated from "exhaust pipes" on the bus. Scents ranging from Apple Pie to White Gardenia could be sampled from a vast library of fragrances, as well as signature aromas created by ScentAir for brands such as Westin Hotels and Sony Style. Users could also create their own custom fragrances by blending an unlimited number of scents, all at the touch of a button.

"The VbubbleU was an opportunity for ScentAir to showcase our capabilities," said CEO David Van Epps. "Our goal was to create an interactive sensory experience that communicated the effectiveness of scent in influencing memory, emotions and buying behaviors. We realized we had hit the mark as people started sharing their personal stories and fond memories after encountering the bus."

The bus debuted at the GlobalShop Expo in Las Vegas where it joined previous innovations in the ScentAir exhibit. Four 1960's-era ball chairs offered a multi-sensory experience of sight, sound, touch and smell. Attendees were invited to don virtual reality glasses, which enabled them to view a short presentation about the company. At different times throughout the video, fragrance was released to complement the corresponding audio and visuals.

"We are always developing new and innovative ways to tell our story," said Murray Dameron, ScentAir's marketing manager. "The VW Microbus and Eero Aarnio ball chairs are both iconic symbols. Since ScentAir is all about linking memory to brands through the power of scent, they were a perfect fit. Attendees were astounded to touch a button and immediately sample nostalgic fragrances such as Play-Doh and Pink Bubblegum."

In addition to the overwhelming response from show attendees, ScentAir was awarded Best Booth in the Digital Store Pavilion of the Expo. The VbubbleU will soon begin a tour of regional malls, as it becomes a first-of-its-kind virtual fragrance store for ScentAir's new home fragrance system.

ScentAir Technologies Inc, founded in 2000, is the leading provider of scent marketing solutions for the retail and hospitality industries. ScentAir enables clients to sculpt a unique buying experience by engaging memory and emotions through the sense of smell. ScentAir's patented scent delivery systems can be customized to enhance any brand or environment.
